Powered by a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm 8260 dual-core processor and running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box (initially running Android Honeycomb, with a promised Android 4.0 upgrade after all), the Asus Eee Pad MeMo ME171 looks pretty much the same as its already announced sibling, the MeMo 370T.
With practically the same dual cameras (a 5 megapixel rear-facing shooter with LED flash and 1080p HD video capabilities and a 1.2 MPx front-facing webcam), as well as the same 4,400 mAh battery capable of up to eight and a half hours of continuous use(or rather expected to go for that much between charges), we can’t help but ask ourselves what’s the catch.

The ME171 was spotted in Vegas a few minutes ago, but oddly enough the gadget wasn't gambling…
What does this 7-incher bring to the table and the other one, the MeMo 370T, doesn’t? Or the other way around, what does the 370T has to offer and the ME171 doesn’t? Well, only time will tell, because for the time being Asus has only revealed a few details about this second 7-inch slate.
That’s the OS of choice, the processors’ speed, the cameras, battery and also the internal storage space of either 16 or 32 GB, depending on the model you will choose to go for. Don’t get me wrong, so far, so good, but so far, there’s no difference whatsoever between the two tablets.

What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, might say some of you, but I would hope this to not be the case of the Asus MeMo ME171.
As far as pricing and availability is concerned, the Asus Eee Pad MeMo ME171 should go up for sale sometime in Q2 this year for a yet to be announced price tag. Before we get the chance to order, purchase the tablet or find out about the differences between it and the other 7-incher from Asus to be launched soon, we have a couple of fresh exclusive photos, taken at the place of the crime, Las Vegas, photos that you can see above!
Enjoy and stay tuned on tabletbite.com for what we like to think of as a thorough and complete coverage of the CES 2012!
Update: We now have a hands-on video preview as well and, as you can see below, the tablet comes with all the features stated in this post, as well as a capacitive pen stylus and an integrated mobile phone (it seems that this was the ”catch” after all).
